Prevent Mouth Cancer With Regular Screenings In Sugar House
At The Sugar House Dentist in Salt Lake City, we care about more than your smile, we also care about your overall health and wellness. As part of a holistic approach to dentistry, we provide oral cancer screening as a part of your regular exam.
Oral or mouth cancer is a serious condition and must be treated or–like other cancers–it can become life threatening. During each of your routine visit with our doctors, your oral health will be carefully assessed using specialized tools and skills to detect the earliest sign and symptoms of mouth cancer, including:
- Difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking and/or moving the jaw and tongue
- Red or white spots and/or sores anywhere in the oral cavity
- Pain, tenderness or numbness anywhere in the mouth or lips
- A sore in the oral cavity that bleeds easily or does not heal
- A lump, thickening or rough spot anywhere in your oral cavity
Each of our Sugar House dentists are trained to perform a screening of your oral cavity to check for cancerous or precancerous symptoms. In addition to an oral screening, your dentist may feel the tissue of your mouth and/or throat to try to detect any abnormalities consistent with mouth cancer. If our professional and knowledgeable dentists believe anything should be tested, a quick brush test may be administered and sent to a laboratory for further testing. If the test comes back positive or atypical, a biopsy is recommended to further diagnose for oral/mouth cancer.
If you feel worried about your oral health or have detected symptoms consistent with mouth cancer, it is best that you schedule an appointment with a dentist as soon as possible to discuss your symptoms with your doctor. We take oral cancer screening extremely seriously and appreciate your trust and confidence in us.
